Most websites go for the left so i say the left.
Not sure i am a fan of loads of different shades of green for the board but...
Maybe some grey and black.
Just make it a bit more interesting.

In most forums the avi is on the left. Also you read left to right so it makes it easier to see who posted what if it is on the left.
